Judge’s Critique

I was very pleased to have the opportunity to judge this quality entry.  A pleasure to see so many good exhibits.  I was pleased to see that the overshot bite and weak underjaw, which was evident in some a few years ago, has disappeared and mouths are a correct scissor bite, although I don’t think that greyhounds, as a breed, have very good teeth.  Interesting to note that there were very few parti-coloured and brindle exhibits and a high number of red and fawns.  There is bound to be debate as to what is a red or a fawn.  I don’t want to cause offence or to start any arguments about the colours, so I have called these two colours Red/fawn in my report.  The owners will know which colour is registered.  Heads were really pleasing to see.  Long and moderate width and good expressions.  I think they have improved since I last judged.  Toplines were varied.  There were good broad backs and good to see that the arch too far forward over the back was not evident today.  Some had a lesser arch to the loin than I would have liked - but tails were generally set on correctly - from a strong, lowish root and then tapering to good length, so most were carried low on the move.  Nice to see good deep chests and well sprung ribs on most exhibits.  Feet were generally good, fronts mixed and rear angulation varied.  Movement was mixed – both coming and going but most side movement was okay and most covered the ground well.  I was very pleased with my winners and especially the BIS winner – a truly lovely bitch. Thanks to the exhibitors for presenting their dogs in good condition and for accepting my placings in a good spirit.

1^st  Clark’s  Wachovia Benjy - Handsome, upstanding, well-proportioned dog in excellent condition.  Good deep chest and spring of rib.  Lovely outline and nice head and expression.  Moves soundly.  A pleasing picture and a firm favourite of mine.  BSBIS

Ina’s Fashion Flair At Incitatus (Imp) Deu - Upstanding Red/fawn presented in good condition.  Nice outline, strong bone, long muscular neck, handsome young dog.  RBPIS

Yearling Dog (1)

Boggia’s Boughton Boomerang – Well-built brindle with good bend of stifle. Super head and expression.  A bit unsettled today and let himself down on the move.

Novice Dog (1)

Boggia’s Whirlaway All Fired Up At Boughton (Imp) Aus - Red/fawn with good bone and elegant masculine head. Good deep brisket. Moved well.

1^st  Ahrens Primavera & Primavera’s Sobers Gaston - Red/fawn with good bone.  Masculine head, neck well let into shoulders and good front. Deep brisket. Lovely picture standing and covered plenty of ground on the move.  Res CC

2^nd Thiel’s Dyka’s Gentle Napoletano - Red/fawn with nice head and neck, good bend of stifle and moved well.
